Children's Programmer, Walpole Public Library (Walpole)

Duties: Under the general direction of the Youth Services Librarian, the Children’s Programmer performs specialized tasks related to providing library services to children up to twelve years of age.  The Children’s Programmer conducts both onsite and offsite programming, creates displays, and performs other tasks as necessary to promote the mission of the Walpole Public Library.  Duties may require independent judgment and action within specific parameters.  The Children’s Programmer interacts with the public and with other staff and will often serve as the first point of contact to the department.

Essential Functions:  Assist in developing, planning and implementing a variety of in-person and virtual programs and activities for children.  Promote programs and activities using print, online and social media sources.  Organize, maintain, prepare and order other materials utilized for crafts and activities.  Create and maintain displays of Library materials and seasonal information. Assists with the Library’s summer reading program.  Conducts outreach to daycares, schools and other facilities either directly or in tandem with the Youth Services Librarian.  Records and tracks statistics.   Provide juvenile reference and reader’s advisory service to phone-in, walk-in and web-based reference patrons.  Assists with general desk duties, including circulation.  Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.


Requirements:   Prior children’s programming or teaching experience.  Establish and maintain connections with employees, supervisors, and public, both adults and children.  Ability to work independently and responsibly.  Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong social media skills.       Establish and maintain connections with employees, supervisors, and public, both adults and children

Full/Part Time

$22.84 per hour. 16 hours per week, including one evening. In addition, every other Saturday from September to June.
