Library Assistant, Circulation, Ashland Public Library (Ashland)

The Town of Ashland is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time position of Library Assistant, Circulation. This is a 14 hour per week position, reporting on Friday and Saturdays for 7 hours. Great position for someone looking to supplement their income or learn the library ropes!

Responsibilities include performing customer service duties to patron in person, on the phone and via email, collecting fines and fees, checking materials in and out, and providing some Reader’s Advisory.

Ability to interact favorably and to communicate effectively, in speech and in writing, with library personnel and members of the community, both individually and in group situations, in person, electronically and over the telephone. Ability to communicate in multiple languages preferred.

Excellent keyboarding skills

Ability to alphabetize

Willingness to learn and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

This is a part-time, 14 hour-per-week position represented by a collective bargaining unit. The schedule is 7 hours on Fridays and Saturdays. The starting salary for this Grade C7 union position is (Step 1) $16.4337 per hour, per Agreement between the Town of Ashland and the Ashland Clerical Workers International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (U.A.W.) and its Local 1596, and is non-benefitted.


High School diploma or equivalent is required.  Some college education is preferred.

Relevant experience in customer service, experience with Innovative Millennium or Sierra platforms and computer skills preferred.
