Library Assistant for Adult Services, Rowley Public Library (Rowley)

This position is responsible for planning, executing, and promoting library programs; providing reference service; helping patrons find materials and consult library resources; assisting with collection maintenance and promoting library resources and programs. 
·         Contributes to the development, implementation, and promotion of adult programs and special events, including the annual summer reading program, special series such as Rowley Reads, crafts, lectures, author visits, book clubs, movies, and others as assigned. 
·         Provides Reference and Reader’s Advisory services to patrons of all ages and reading levels. 
·         Provides outreach to underserved populations. May hold programs off site, at senior center or other partner organizations. May include evening and weekend hours. 
·         Assists & instructs patrons in accessing library resources in all formats, physical and virtual, as well as using a variety of office equipment, technology, and devices. 
·         Promotes use of library resources by creating displays, flyers, social media posts, and other promotional materials as assigned. Contributes to monthly e-newsletter, library web site and social media pages. 
·         Tracks and reports statistics and metrics for the adult services department, including attendance at programs and volunteer hours contributed. 
·         Performs all circulation procedures including checking in, checking out and renewing library materials, placing patron holds, processing patron overdue notices and bills, and inter-library loan requests.
·         Manages orders for materials and supplies.
·         Processes new library materials in all formats. 
·         Registers new patrons and updates patron accounts. 
·         Contributes to a safe and comfortable environment for staff and patrons. Intervenes when patron behavior is unacceptable. 
·         Understands, enforces, and explains library policies to patrons. 
·         Displays professional conduct and appearance at all times while performing duties.
·         Other duties as assigned.


1-2 years of experience in a public library, with a focus on reference, technical services, or outreach preferred. Other relevant experience in related fields will be considered. Bachelor’s degree required, with coursework in a relevant field such as education, literature, or library or information science, preferred.

Position works 20 hours per week. Starting rate effective July 1, 2021 $20.20 per hour.
