Archivist, Woburn Public Library (Woburn)

The Woburn Public Library is seeking a professional Archivist to be responsible for the operation of the Glennon Archives and provide occasional help at the reference desk.

Essential Tasks:  

Responsible for overseeing the operation of the Glennon Archives.  This includes acquiring, appraising, accessioning, describing and preserving records, photographs and artifacts, creating finding aids to facilitate access, and responding to research inquiries.  Responsible for the digitization of materials and manages access to digital collections.  Creates archival exhibits and materials to be experienced both virtually and in person. Develops and presents informative outreach programs focusing on local history.  Supervises one part-time employee and volunteers.

Provides routine public service at public service desks when needed.

Works under the general supervision of the Library Director or Assistant Director.

Work Environment:

The 1879 building, designed by H.H. Richardson was completely restored and a beautiful glass addition was completed in 2019.  The building is a magnificent state of the art facility.

Full time, 37.5 hours per week.  Some evenings and Saturdays are required.

Qualifications

MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution with archives specialization. Well organized and ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.   Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Experience working in a library or archive and some experience supervising others is preferred.

$52,116-$64,592 commensurate with experience. City’s health, retirement and benefits package.
