Technology Librarian, Woburn Public Library (Woburn)


 The Woburn Public Library is seeking a professional librarian to provide leadership and technical expertise in the selection, development and implementation of library materials and information technologies.  Responsible for the integration and maintenance of all automated systems, including equipment, and software.  Provides technical support and training to staff and patrons and performs routine library tasks when required.

Essential Tasks:  

Responsible for overseeing the library’s technical services operation, including the training and supervision of 8-12 staff. Designs workflow and monitors performance for the acquisition, cataloging, classification and processing of approximately $200,000 worth of new items each year.

Maintains and supports a network of 100+ personal computers and other devices. Diagnoses equipment problems, makes repairs, and solicits assistance from the City’s IT Department and/or vendors when needed.

Serves as Woburn’s “Key User” to the Minuteman Library Network and represents the library at various meetings. Stays abreast of innovations in library technology.  Works with City’s IT Department to maintain integration between the library, the City, MLN, and various vendors.  Installs and configures hardware and software products and coordinates training for library staff and patrons in the use of various technologies.

Provides routine public service at both the reference and circulation desks when needed.  May plan and lead programs intended to inform the public on technological topics of interest to the community.

Assists the library administration in the hiring and training of new employees.

Work Environment:

The 1879 building, designed by H.H. Richardson was completely restored and a beautiful glass addition was completed in 2019.  The building is a magnificent state of the art facility.

Full time.  Some evenings and Saturdays are required.


MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and three years of progressively responsible library experience.  Experience using an integrated library system is required, Innovative Interfaces experience is preferred. Proven in depth knowledge of library information technology, both hardware and software. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively.  Experience supervising and training others.

$58,958.98-$72,662.37 commensurate with experience. City’s health, retirement and benefits package.
