Library Technician — Youth Services, Uxbridge Free Public Library (Uxbridge)

The Uxbridge Free Public Library is seeking a friendly, service-oriented paraprofessional to work primarily in Youth Services under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Librarian/Assistant Library Director. This is an ideal position for someone who is enthusiastic about reading and who enjoys working directly with children and families.

This is a part-time position of 19 hours per week. It includes two evenings per week and hours on Fridays or Saturdays, depending on the library’s seasonal operating hours. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of daily library services — circulation, reference assistance, cataloging, and programming as needed. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provides general library services to patrons at circulation desk using Evergreen ILS, including checking materials in and out, issuing new library cards, and handling fines and bills
• Provides both reference and readers’ advisory services, as well as technology assistance — in person, by phone, or by email
• Assists with the cataloging and processing of new materials and any ongoing weeding projects
• Provides a broad knowledge of juvenile/young adult literature
• Assists with the development and facilitation of library programs for children
• Fulfills any patron hold requests and processes incoming interlibrary loans
• Assists with ongoing collection maintenance — e.g. shelf reading, book repairs, weeding, updating bibliographic records
• Assists with the library’s opening and closing procedures
• Assists other staff members with special projects or programs


High School diploma or equivalent. Some college and one to two years of library experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, especially with computers and Evergreen ILS.
