Library Technician II - Bibliographic Services and Youth Services, Cary Library (Lexington)

Cary Memorial Library is looking for a creative and detail-oriented person to join our team as a full-time Library Technician II in Bibliographic Services and Youth Services. Cary Library is a treasured resource in Lexington, with circulation and attendance among the highest in the state.  The ideal candidate should enjoy working collaboratively, have the ability to establish rapport with patrons of all ages, and demonstrate a respect for diversity and a desire to provide inclusive services. 

Library Technicians assist in all service areas of the library, a busy, service-oriented environment.  In Bibliographic Services, Library Technicians prepare materials to circulate. They help to make library collections appealing and discoverable. Responsibilities include creating and working with catalog records for children’s materials, labeling, packaging, and repair. The person in this position will also work with the public in Youth Services, including assisting patrons in locating material, checking materials in and out, handling deliveries from the Minuteman Library Network, answering telephones, and shelving materials. Library Technicians have the opportunity to get involved with programs, displays, and social media.

Qualifications

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will hold an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience. Previous experience working with children and knowledge of children’s literature is preferred. PC proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and web searching are required.  Experience using Sierra ILS software is preferred, although we will consider experience with other Integrated Library Systems. Language skills are a plus, particularly Chinese or Korean.

$19.95 - $28.25 hourly commensurate with experience, plus an excellent benefits package. This is a Union position.
