Library Assitant II - Specialist - Circulation Department, Waltham Public Library (Waltham)

Seeking a friendly, adaptive, enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to help serve a diverse, urban community within a busy library setting. We're looking for someone who is self-motivated, cares about accuracy, and can handle stressful situations with grace and good humor. Customer service experience is highly valued.

Duties include:  Helping library patrons research and locate materials and information, providing assistance with digital materials, answering telephones, checking items in and out, registering patrons, account maintenance and other general desk duties as assigned.

19 hours per week

Weekly schedule to include a morning and afternoon and a minimum of one evening/week, plus a minimum of one Saturday and one Sunday per month year-round.

$27.70 per hour, pro-rated paid time off;  no health or retirement benefits


Qualifications include:  Associates Degree or 2 years of post-high school education; 6 months of computer experience; 1 year experience working with the public or any equivalent combination. Strong interest in working with film, music, digital media and audiobooks. Ability to perform under pressure, ability to work with library staff and a diverse general public in a tactful and courteous manner; good problem solving and computer skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Must pass a pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol screening, a Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI) and a background check. Selected candidate will be required to submit three written and signed letters of reference within one week of accepting a conditional offer.  Letters may not be dated any older than two years.  Emails are acceptable providing they come directly from the author’s email.  Full description available at Human Resources Department.

Preferred qualifications: Fluency in Spanish, Chinese, Haitian Creole or Portuguese; facility with social media, familiarity with III Sierra software; facility with basic print or web design; experience with marketing and outreach.
