Technology Specialist, Waltham Public Library (Waltham)

Waltham Public Library –Part-time  Technology Specialist

Seeking a friendly, adaptive, enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to help serve a diverse, urban community within a busy library setting. We're looking for people who are self-motivated, care about accuracy, want to learn new computer and maker skills, and can handle stressful situations with grace and good humor. Customer service experience is highly valued.

Duties include:  Assisting the Head of Technology with software updates and hardware maintenance; Maintaining the website; Problem solving and troubleshooting a variety of technology issues; Teaching classes on computer literacy along with more advanced maker classes (crafts, 3D design, vinyl and laser cutting) for the community; Helping library patrons research and locate materials and information, providing assistance with digital materials, answering telephones, checking items in and out, registering patrons, account maintenance and other general desk duties as assigned.

19 hours per week

Weekly schedule to include a morning and afternoon and a minimum of one evening/week, plus a minimum of one Saturday and one Sunday per month including July & August.

$27.70 per hour, pro-rated paid time off

Qualifications

Associates Degree or 2 years of post-high school education; 6 months of computer experience; 1 year experience working with the public or any equivalent combination. Strong interest in working with computers, networks, hardware & software. Ability to perform under pressure, ability to work with library staff and a diverse general public in a tactful and courteous manner; excellent problem solving and computer skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Must pass a pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol screening, a Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI) and a background check. . Selected candidate will be required to submit three written and signed letters of reference within one week of accepting a conditional offer. Letters may not be dated any older than two years. Preferred qualifications: Fluency in Spanish, Chinese, Haitian Creole or Portuguese; facility with social media, familiarity with III Sierra software; familiarity with basic print or web design, makerspaces, Microsoft Office, Google Workplace; knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress.
