Youth Services Librarian, RICHARDS MEMORIAL LIBRARY (Paxton)

The Richards Memorial Library is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for children of all ages and their families. The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for weekly storytime during the school year, monthly teen meetings, special monthly and seasonal events for children, as well as the summer reading program. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in programming and knowledge of STEM as it relates to a library setting. 

Responsibilities include planning and implementing programs for children and teens, providing reference and readers' advisory services to children, teens and families, and coordination of youth volunteers and pages. The Youth Services Librarian will also be responsible for marketing youth programs including updating relevant youth pages on the website, creating all digital and print materials for youth programs, and updating social media. Attends system-wide meetings of youth services librarians for in-service training and/or to plan and implement system-wide children's programs, when possible. Coordinates outreach with local schools. Additionally, the Youth Services Librarian is responsible for the daily operations of the library in the absence of the Director, including but not limited to staff management, public relations, physical operations, and other issues that may arise. Coverage of circulation desk may also be required. Ability to multitask, and work independently and as a team member. Other responsibilities as required. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree. Two years or more working with children, and proven programming and STEM experience. Proven computer and customer service skills. Experience with Evergreen preferred. Ability to work a set schedule: Tuesday & Thursday 12pm - 8pm, Wednesday & Friday 9am - 5pm; every other Saturday 10am - 2pm.
