Assistant Dean of Library Service, Mount Wachusett Community College (Gardner)

The Assistant Dean of Library Services provides strategic leadership for the Mount Wachusett Community College LaChance Library and all library services. The incumbent budgets and develops a strategic plan for developing a 21st Century library. Oversee collection maintenance and development and supervise all library staff. Represent the library internally and externally and liaise with statewide organizations and stakeholders. We are looking for a dynamic leader who can develop vision and champion the further development and implementation of modern library services and facilities.


Develops and implements the Library Strategic Plan and leads initiatives to modernize and continuously improve library functions, services, facilities, and utilization of emerging library technologies;
Coordinates library services and policies with campus strategic initiatives and monitors all short and long-range tactical planning of library teams and working groups;
Leads efforts to maintain a robust, learner-centered, service-oriented environment and to reinforce the diversity, equity, and inclusion mission of Library Services;
Provides administrative oversight for collection management and facilitates the development of a robust library print and digital collection;
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates all full time and part time library employees;
Develops and administers the annual budgets and coordinates the allocation of funds related to collection development, library services, facilities, staffing, and professional development;
Supports Academic Program Review and NECHE accreditation;
Pursues external funding opportunities;
Represents the library to the community at large and at governance meetings (e.g., CWMARS, MLS, MBLC, ARC, and MCCLPHEI);
Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Master of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution;
Five years of experience working in a college/university library;
Knowledge of modern library systems, processes, and services;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty and a commitment to strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education;
Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal modes and to work effectively through distance learning technology.
Preferred Qualifications

Three years of experience as the director of a college library or equivalent, including responsibility for planning, managing a budget, and supervision;
Experience working in a learner-centered and service-oriented library environment;
Experience in planning, developing, and managing college library operations and services;
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment that requires data-driven decision-making, adaptiveness, and highly effective communications, collaboration, and leadership skills;
Demonstrated record of pursuing and obtaining external funding to support library initiatives.
