Circulation Coordinator, Abbot Public Library (Marblehead)


Under general supervision of the Director and Head of Public Service, is responsible for efficient operation of circulation desks, maintaining patron registration database, maintaining inventory, ordering library supplies, and other tasks.

• Oversees all circulation desk procedures and routines. Responsible for coordinating desk work of all personnel staffing circulation desks.
• Trains new circulation staff in procedures including operation of the library’s Integrated Library System (ILS).
• Trains new staff in electronic mail procedures. Serves as a representative to North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE) Network for circulation and statistics. Subscribes to Internet newsgroups to explore current library trends and concerns.
• Ensures uniform, reasonable application of library procedures and policies, including those of NOBLE.
• Responsible for ongoing training of desk staff in response to changes in automated system, policy, patron concerns, etc.
• Designs, produces and updates Circulation Desk Procedures Manual as a reference tool for all desk staff.
• Serves as representative to NOBLE for circulation issues.
• Oversees adult and children’s registration process. Inputs or inspects all new patron registration information. Responsible for maintaining accuracy of existing patron database.
• Maintains inventory of all library supplies. Orders supplies within budgetary constraints; does comparative pricing, checks contract references. Distributes supplies as needed to points of use.
• Has basic knowledge of library equipment to ensure its availability for patron use.
• Maintains calendar for library hours, holiday closings and resulting due dates for library materials. Records outgoing messages for telephone system. Relays information to NOBLE central site via email to ensure system accuracy for all patrons.
• Designs and produces brochures, booklists, reservation books, display signs, etc. using word processing and graphics software.
• Oversees museum pass service: processes new museum passes, maintains pass calendars, oversees issuance procedures, tracks expiration and renewal of memberships, issues reports on pass usage.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature and complexity as directed or as necessary for the efficient operation of the library.


• High school with two to three years working in a public environment
• Familiarity with Google Workspace computer systems, course work or training in word processing and graphics programs.
• Strong customer service skills preferred.

$23.14 - $27.62  / year

37.5 hours (M-F, plus one weekend in four)
