Library Assistant, Elizabeth Taber Library (Marion)

The Elizabeth Taber Library is a small, historic (yet modern) library in the beautiful seaside community of Marion, Massachusetts.  We are seeking a part time Library Assistant to help us by providing patron based services to our community.

10-15 hours a week including weekends and occasional evenings 

$15 an hour starting salary

Under the direction and management of the Director, a library assistant engages in all facets of library services, policies and procedures, and provides all patron based services at the Circulation Desk including but not limited to:

·   Providing direct public service including greeting patrons, offering general assistance, and providing reference & reader’s advisory services.

·    Assisting patrons with research and online searches, as well as providing information on library services and procedural matters.

·   Processing materials, fines & fees.

·   Answering patron requests via phone and email.

·   Placing and tracking patron holds.

·   Investigating possible lost/missing items on behalf of patrons/library.

·   Registering new patrons.

·   Providing computer & catalog assistance.

·    Processing new material for the entire collection.

·     Shelving library material as needed.

·     Maintains computers/printers in good working order for public & staff.

·      Evaluates & recommends development of operating Policies & Procedures.

·      Weeds and organizes collection. 

·      Additional Duties as needed.


Library experience is preferred, particularly familiarity with the SAILS library network and Workflows operating systems.
