Night Circulation Monitor, Architecture Library, Roger Williams University (Bristol, RI)

The Night Circulation Monitor is responsible for the operational administration of the Architecture Library in the absence of library staff.

Essential Functions/Characteristics:

·       Oversight Responsibilities: Oversees the Architecture Library during prescribed evening hours, including all circulation functions according to established policies and procedures. Updates HELIN library records for Architecture Library patrons as needed.

·       Collections Responsibilities: Assists with shelf-reading, inventory, and maintenance of the general physical condition of the collections. Periodically assists with preorder searching of new titles. Assists with physically shifting the collections when necessary.

·       Supervision Responsibilities: Directs work-study and payroll student employees who are working with the Monitor. Observes student employee performance and informs department management of these observations.

·       Patron Service Responsibilities: Assists patrons with routine reference and technical questions to the degree possible, referring patrons to the librarian as needed. Serves as the initial service contact in the absence of the Architecture/Art Librarian and the Architecture Library Circulation Coordinator.

Additional Functions

·       Monitors the Architecture Library facilities, including the public photocopier and scanners, and reports service needs.

·       When assigned to the Main Library, closes the Library in coordination with Public Safety.

·       Attends daytime library staff meetings when schedule allows.

·       This is a part-time (20 hours) PSSA Level 2 Clerical Union position.


Associates degree with some coursework in architecture and/or art disciplines.

A minimum of one year library experience.

·       Excellent oral and written communications skills.

·       Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.

·       Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

·       Excellent problem solving skills and ability to exercise good judgment.

·       Excellent customer service skills.

·       Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Bachelor's degree preferred in architecture and/or art disciplines.

·       Experience working with integrated library systems.

·       At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
