Young Adult Librarian, Marlborough Public Library (Marlborough)

Under the direction of the Library Director, directs and supervises all activities of the Teen Services Department. Actively promotes and provides activities and programs specifically geared to teen population (6th – 12th grade). 

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Serves as member of library management team and has broad array of responsibilities for the Teen Services department.
· Plans and implements variety of creative library programs designed to encourage participation of teen library patrons. Produces book lists and book talks for Teen Services Department. May participate in joint programming with other departments. Designs displays to promote books, authors, and other media. Manages allocated budget for programs and related expenses.
· Promotes and provides exemplary customer service to public.
· Hires, trains, and schedules pages. Trains staff to protect confidentiality of patron records according to library policy and Mass General Law. 
· Stays current on Teen library services through professional journals and other professional resources. 
· Evaluates library services to Teens and makes recommendations for improvements to Library Director. 
· Responsible for teen collection development and cataloging of items for Teen Services department. Manages allocated budget for collection development. Maintains collection through shelf reading and weeding.
· Produces marketing materials for programs and services. 
· Participates in social media postings according to library policy. 
· Contributes to policy development for Teen Department and broader library policies. 
· Partners with and promotes the Teen Services department and its activities to local schools and organizations serving teens.
· Visits City schools serving teens to promote services.
· Provides support to schools for summer reading programs and reading lists. 
· Provides tours of library to teens and community groups.
· Actively seeks grant opportunities. 
· Acts as supervisor in charge on nights and weekends. May be required to open and close the library. 
· Provides direct customer service at the Teen Services desk and covers other departments as required. 
· Answers inquiries on the telephone and in person. Provides Reader’s advisory. 
· Assists patrons with technical questions and training, including the use of the online public catalog, requesting items from other libraries and placing holds. Provides other computer assistance as required or requested. 
· Maintains statistical reporting for ARIS state report and additional statistics as requested or assigned.
· Other similar tasks and projects as requested by Library Director.


Master’s in Library Science from an accredited program. Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience working with teens required. Customer service experience preferred. Knowledge of Teen Services, Teen literature and collection development. Library automation and library technologies. Detail oriented, able to problem solve, exhibits positive attitude, flexibility, and initiative. Ability to communicate effectively with the public in person, on the telephone and in writing. Facility with computer software and hardware, including the creation of promotional materials. Familiarity with Spanish, Portuguese desirable.
