Title:               Student Success Librarian: Reference Instruction and Digital Resources

Location:         Middlesex Community College (Lowell and Bedford)            

Start date:        December 6, 2021      

End date:         March 4, 2022 

Schedule:        Monday – Thursday 8:30 AM - 3:00PM, Friday 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM       

Pay Rate:         $20.75-24.00/hr

CORI:             NOT REQUIRED



·      Provides reference services, online assistance, and one-on-one library instruction that promotes the information literacy competencies of our students on both the Lowell and Bedford campuses;

·      Collaborates with librarians and faculty to help develop a multilevel, curriculum-integrated information literacy education program;

·      Assists in the planning and implementation of instructional content, activities, and assessment methods for this program on both campuses;

·      Participates in the assessment of student learning and evaluation of the overall effectiveness of the College’s instructional services;

·      Serves as a backup for other library staff in their absence;

·      Performs other duties, as assigned.



- Master's degree in Library Science or closely related field; with one-year experience and/or training that includes library operations, reference service, bibliographic instruction, circulation service and library information systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;

- Experience developing tutorials or other research/instructional tools;

- Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities;

- Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse environment


- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills;

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using LibGuides, Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Captivate and Camtasia

- Good understanding of student learning outcome assessment as it applies to information literacy instruction;

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve common goals;

- Knowledge of library database searching, the research process, and principles of active learning as applied to information literacy;

-Bilingual skills a plus

Salary Range

$20.75 - $24.00  / hour
