Reference Librarian, Morse Institute Library (Natick)

Due to a retirement, the Morse Institute Library  has an opening for a dynamic and enthusiastic Reference Librarian. The Morse Institute Library is a library with strong community support in the town of Natick. 


This is a librarian position that offers a lot of latitude for growth. Interested in genealogy? There are archives a’plenty here. Prefer to focus on the more tech-side of the profession? The Morse Institute just revamped its entire website, and has launched with a new digital branch. There are many available opportunities for the right candidate to support and grow the department in new and exciting directions.


The Reference Librarian plans, organizes and oversees services for adults, including reference assistance and reader’s advisory, programming, selection of materials, collection management, and outreach. They engage with the community, supporting both traditional outreach efforts and those on social media platforms. The work also includes preparing, implementing, and evaluating programming for adults; strong communication skills; preparing and tracking a materials budget and staffing shifts at the information desk. 

The ideal candidate would also have strong technology skills, and familiarity with social media platforms. Experience with HTML and CSS, Springshare apps, Sierra, and basic computer troubleshooting skills are a plus.

This is a full-time position starting at $31.92/hr. This is a full-time non-exempt position. Natick offers excellent employee benefits.

Qualifications

The Reference Librarian must have earned a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited institution, and have 2-3 years experience working in a library with demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population. In exceptional circumstances, specialized education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for part of the educational requirements.
