Senior Librarian, Malden Public Library (Malden)

Position is responsible for assisting Library Director and Assistant Director in day to day management of personnel and library services to insure the Library needs of the community are satisfied in addition to duties associated with the Information Librarian position.  Duties and Responsibilities: Plans programs and services, promotes library use in the community, and serves as liaison with community groups and schools. Interacts with the public, staff, and administration. Communicates with administration on a regular basis. Assists in training professional and support staff in public services. Maintains a working knowledge of contemporary issues, trends, and technology in the library profession. Generates ideas for service improvements. Analyzes and recommends improvements for existing workflow and procedures. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and the general public. Supports information technology systems for the Library as well as provides staff and public with support for computers (hardware and software), peripherals, and associated technology. Installs, configures, and maintains Library computer hardware and software. Assists in maintaining and troubleshooting wireless internet access and manages and maintains audio/visual equipment. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited library school. Five (5) years of public library experience with a minimum of three (3) years public library supervisory experience. Bilingual skills preferred.

Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a public setting, subject to quiet to moderate noise with frequent interruptions. While the work is varied, many of the tasks are of a repetitive nature. With or without accommodation the needs may be: up to two thirds of the time standing, walking, stooping, or reaching with hands and arms; frequent need to lift up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Highly motivated and customer-oriented individual with excellent communication skills; effective interpersonal skills needed to interact with diverse cultural community. Demonstrated leadership ability. Excellent supervisory and management skills. Willingness and proven ability to work with patrons of all age groups. Ability to make and implement decisions based on Library policy and procedures. Ability to carry out assigned duties independently, creatively, and in an organized manner. Ability to handle details with accuracy and ability to multitask under pressure. Ability to analyze library services and make recommendations for improvement based on patron needs. Proven ability to plan and supervise work of others. Ability to interact effectively with staff and administration. Working knowledge of library technologies. Broad knowledge of library collections. The position requires a commitment to service excellence, the ability to work well with others in a team and independently, prioritize and focus on what is critical and a commitment to lifelong learning along with the ability and willingness to assume responsibility.
