Schedule:        2 Positions/Shifts

                        7:30am – 4pm 

                        8:30am – 5pm

Pay Rate:        $35 – $45 per hour


The Alumni Medical Library at Boston University seeks an experienced, collaborative professional to serve in the newly created position of Medical Librarian (official title to be determined). The Alumni Medical Library serves the faculty, staff, and students of the Boston University Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Public Health. The Medical Librarian will work in the Reference and Education Services department, reporting to the Assistant Director of Library and Information Management Education. The Medical Librarian works to advance research, scholarship, and teaching through participation, assessment, and coordination of Expert Search Services in the Alumni Medical Library.

The Medical Librarian is the primary library liaison to Boston University Medical Campus researchers with broad duties, including research data management, scholarly communications, and expert searching. This position will also participate in general reference and library instruction. This position builds and maintains collaborative relationships with researchers through outreach, instruction, and research support services. As the most experienced reference librarian, this position serves as a mentor to newer staff.



• Provides Reference/Research services at the Reference Desk, by-appointment, and via Zoom.

• Troubleshoots and resolves service issues.

• Serves as back-up to access services staff.

• Participates in educational services.

• Completes special projects, as assigned, such as developing/maintaining subject-specific guides.


• Master’s Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution. 

• Experience in an academic library. 

• Health sciences experience preferred. 

• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team-oriented environment.

$35.00 - $45.00  / hour
