Reference Librarian, Chelsea Public Library (Chelsea)


Perform a variety of duties to provide assistance to patrons in the use of all library resources, including online catalog, databases, Internet, OverDrive, etc. Help patrons download materials to various mobile devices, troubleshoot computer and printer issues. Must possess strong commitment to high-quality public service and enjoy patron instruction, reader’s advisory and other patron interactions. Ability to assist technology librarian with technology instruction, computer maintenance, and/or special projects preferred.





Bachelor’s Degree preferred.


One (1) or more years of relevant experience within a public library system, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:  

Must have knowledge of the use of library resources and information technology as well as experience troubleshooting.  High comfort level with computers.  Must possess good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with people of all ages, including volunteers, community partners, colleagues and supervisors.  Must enjoy learning and have a friendly disposition and good customer service skills. Must have a strong attention to detail and accuracy.  Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.  An interest in working in support of the Children’s Department when needed is preferred.  Flexibility to work additional hours is also preferred, as additional hours may be needed during the week to work on special projects and/or to supplement the Reference Department schedule when coverage is needed due to vacations or absences.  Bilingual ability in Spanish helpful.  Chelsea residency is required for this position
