Head of Children's Services, Peabody Institute Library (Danvers)

Are you energetic and dedicated to children's services? Then join our team in our beautiful historic building that is well supported by the town. We are looking for someone to create and foster more community engagement with the children, families, organizations and schools of Danvers via programming, outreach and collections for ages 0 to 11. Successful candidates will have a positive outlook, a collaborative mindset, and will be ready to bring our children's department to the next level. The opportunities are endless. Experience with a wide range of children's programming and a deep knowledge of children's literature is a must.

This position is 37.5 hours per week and includes excellent benefits. Hours include one night per week and a Saturday rotation.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Trains, supervises and evaluates children’s department personnel in programming and services.
Plans and conducts programming for children and their families, including story times, crafts, book discussion groups, science, math, engineering and arts programs.
Oversees, operates and supervises all aspects of circulation, catalog usage and maintenance of accounts on the children’s desk. 
Manages the budget for the children’s department in regards to spending on materials and supplies.
Participates in development of policies and procedures for the library as well as the children’s department.
Participates in writing grants for programming and services as relates to the children’s department.
Visits, collaborates, gives tours and serves as a liaison to all Danvers elementary schools, preschools and other community organizations that serve children in the area. 
Creates marketing materials to advertise children’s programs and services and works collaboratively with the marketing committee to post such advertising to social media, the online calendar and on flyers.

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school required; five years of library experience that includes working with children’s programming or any equivalent combination of education or experience; 2 or more years of supervisory experience.

$56,129.00 - $71,260.00  / year
