Library Assistant, Elizabeth Taber Library (Marion)

Job description: Library assistant

10-12 hours a week including Saturdays and evenings

$15 an hour

The Elizabeth Taber Library is looking for a part time library assistant position at a small public library in the seaside community of Marion, MA.   Library experience is preferred, particularly familiarity with the SAILS library network and Workflows operating systems.  

Under the direction and management of the Director, the Library Assistant engages in all facets of library services, policies and procedures, and provides all patron based services at the Circulation Desk including but not limited to:

·         Providing a range of direct patron services including reference & reader’s advisory services, in person, over the phone, or via email

·         Placing and tracking patron holds

·         Investigating possible lost/missing items on behalf of patrons/library

·         Registering new patrons

·         Providing computer & catalog assistance including assisting patrons with research and online searches and helping patrons with library technology

·         Maintaining collections and processing new material 

·         Shelving library material as needed.

·         Maintains computers/printers in good working order for public & staff.

·         Evaluates & recommends development of operating Policies & Procedures

Additional Duties

·         Schedule/prepare meeting rooms

·         Perform opening/closing duties

·         Assist in collection repair as necessary

·         Track and order supplies for the library and staff as needed

Qualifications

Library experience is preferred but not required.  Schedule includes most Saturdays and at least one evening (until 8pm) a week.
