Library Assistant I – Reference Services, Fall River Public Library (Fall River)

This is a full-time, paraprofessional position working in the reference department of a busy public library. The person in this position is responsible for serving the public through in-person, phone, and online reference transactions, providing technical help and support with library computers and patrons' devices, assisting with interlibrary loan and collection development, assisting with reader's advisory, library displays, and book lists, and helping patrons with fax service, copying, and microfilm use. In addition to a regular schedule in the reference department, this person may be required to cover in other departments, such as adult circulation and children's services, as needed.

The hours for this position are: Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., and alternating Fridays & Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. -5 p.m. or 9 a.m. -4:30 p.m. 


A bachelor’s degree in any subject. At least one year of library or related experience preferred. The person in this position should be familiar with current technology and comfortable helping people with computer issues. Students enrolled in MLIS programs are welcome to apply.

Salary Range

$1,059.84 - $1,485.82  / bi-weekly

Salary Notes

Salary based on 5 steps. Starting step based on qualifications.
