Staff Librarian II - Children's, Acton Memorial Library (Acton)

The Town of Acton is seeking applicants for the benefitted position of the Staff Librarian II – Children’s at the Acton Memorial Library. This professional position works with Children from ages 0-14 and their parents, teachers, and caregivers; with significant responsibility for programs, collections, and services for the library users. The applicant will be reporting to the Head of Children’s at the Acton Memorial Library.  

General Duties and Responsibilities: This position will answer library users’ questions, help with finding information and materials and will assist with the public in all aspects of using the library with basic computer use and basic computer troubleshooting. Participates in regular or special programming including storytelling, scheduling of performers, publicity, and evaluation. May participate in materials selection and collection maintenance. Will speak will teachers, school, or community groups regarding library services and resources. Provides Readers Advisory services to children and their caregivers. Assists in the planning and development of book and other displays. Assists with the library website content, creation, and maintenance.  Performs all other tasks and duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library Science or a Masters degree in Educational Media; two (2) years’ experience working with children ages 14 and under in a fully automated library; knowledge of children’s library resources and programming; demonstrated communications, organization, and public service skills; experience working with different cultures; attention to detail; experience in basic computer troubleshooting. 

Preferred Qualifications: Additional relevant library experience with pre-schoolers; experience in programming and collection development for children; Bilingual is a plus. STEM experience. Creative and artistic talents are highly encouraged for programs (i.e. musical instruments, etc.)
