Director, East Brookfield Public Library (East Brookfield)

The Trustees of the East Brookfield Public Library located in south Central Massachusetts are seeking a motivated, skilled Director to manage their small library in a town with a population of 2,200. The position requires a blend of technical skills, management and communication skills necessary to effectively operate the library. 

The Director plans, organizes and manages all aspects of the library in conformity with library policies established by the Library Trustees, along with other town policies, and with State, Federal and municipal laws and regulations. 

We are seeking an individual to deliver exceptional service to our residents. Upon acceptance of this position, the candidate will provide professional assistance to the Trustees. Knowledge of the methods of library administration and management is required: including personnel, planning, collection development, programming, public relations and budgeting. Adaptability, initiative, tact, courtesy and good judgement are essential in this collaborative environment.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree is required; with 2 years of library experience or equivalent administrative experience preferred. Computer related skills are essential. 
 - Work is performed in a moderately busy library environment; occasional weekend or evening hours required. 
 - Professional or sub-professional Certificate of Librarianship from MBLC or agreement to complete the certification in the first 5 years of employment. 
  - The final candidate must complete a CORI check.
 - Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; must maintain an effective working relationship with the Board of Trustees, town officials, community groups and other libraries. Must project a positive image to make effective public presentations.

REQUIREMENTS
 - Maintain a high degree of confidentiality of library patron records and borrowing history.
Maintain a high degree of accuracy. 
 - Must work towards having a thorough knowledge of library science practices, knowledge of resources, programs and services available to public libraries.
 - Considerable knowledge of budgeting and personnel administration. Ability to direct, supervise and evaluate part-time employees. 
 - Attend and Participate in all Library Trustee meetings. Prepare monthly director’s and expense reports.
