Assistant Director of Outreach Services, Chelmsford Public Library (Chelmsford)

We have an opening for a full-time Assistant Director of Outreach Services at the Chelmsford Library. We are seeking an Assistant Director who is a great problem-solver, tackling challenges with ingenuity, skill and practical sense. Ideally, this is a job for someone with ambition to be a director, as we are actively involved in succession planning now. We want someone open to working on everything from a leaky roof to a reduction in budget. Facility management experience and know-how would also be a huge plus. (Can you hang your own mini-blinds?)

Strategic planning, DEIC guidelines, and big picture ideas – we need someone always thinking. No project is too small or too unusual to tackle. We need someone who works well with their colleagues and the public. We want someone who thrives on new challenges and embraces librarianship as a calling and not just a job. We’re looking for someone who is able to shift gears at any moment, filling in at a desk, picking up a co-worker’s responsibilities when needed, taking on a new role, talented enough to take on most anything – a Renaissance librarian.

We would love someone who thrives on working with community partners, Friends of the Library and volunteers. Not only do we want you to manage our Pop-up Library schedule, we also want you to be waving from the front seat as it rolls through the town. We need someone who enjoys participating.

We would also like a well-read candidate who enjoys the minutiae of comprehensive collection development and enjoys mentoring other librarians. And we need someone organized, super smart and up-to-speed on current library trends who has a great track record managing staff. In short, we want it all!

MLS (Master of Library Science) or MLIS (Master of Library Information Science) from an American Library Association accredited library school. Three to five years of library management experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills; listening and interpersonal skills; organizational skills; public speaking skills. Sense of humor is a must. Baking skills are always appreciated. Knowledge of web design – Craft CMS or similar content management would be helpful, personnel management, strategic planning, and collection development.
