Adult Services Librarian - Technical Services, Grafton Public Library (Grafton)

The Grafton Public Library anticipates a vacancy due to June 2022 retirement, anticipates hiring an Adult Services Librarian – Technical Services. The ideal candidate has a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work including reference tools, cataloging of classification systems, and automated circulation functions; knowledge of the organization and management of library including operations and computer applications in support of department operations and services such as the Internet, a knowledge of the Evergreen ILS Cataloging Module, and ability to apply the Dewey Decimal Classification System and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.

Under the direction of the Library Director, the Adult Services Librarian – Technical Services is responsible for acquisition, cataloging and processing of all material added to library collections, for de-accessioning discarded items, and for library database maintenance.

The Adult Services Librarian – Technical Services:

·       Oversees the acquisition and cataloging of library materials functions for material purchases and donations;

·       Prioritizes the processing of new and donated items and other technical processing;

·       Receives and confirms completeness of shipments of new materials;

·       Applies national cataloging standards, matches new items tom appropriate bibliographic records in the ILS database;

·       Adds/edits local holding information in the ILS database;

·       Assigns call numbers using the Dewey Decimal Classification system;

·       Performs physical processing (i.e. affixing barcodes, book covers, spine labels, RFID tags, putting together kits) as needed;

·       Assists patrons with reference and reader’s advisory requests and bibliographic instruction including traditional library media, the Internet, the Evergreen online catalog, and other online resources;

·       Coordinates collection maintenance and inventory;

·       Acts as liaison to Ingram, CW MARS, Bibliotheca and other vendors/service providers to coordinate issues related to ordering, processing, cataloging and RFID.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent required. Two to three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS
Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work including reference tools, cataloging of classification systems, and automated circulation functions; knowledge of the organization and management of library including operations and computer applications in support of department operations and services such as the Internet. Knowledge of ILS Cataloging Module. 

Abilities: Ability to apply the Dewey Decimal Classification System and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and Library of Congress Subject Headings. Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and colleagues. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a detailed, organized manner. 

Skill: Proficient interpersonal and customer service skills; proficient oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills.

$24.48 - $32.12  / hour

Salary Notes

Full-time position with benefits, 35 hrs/ wk includes weekday, evening & Sat hours. Salary is 12 steps with annual increase.
