Library Technician, Levi Heywood Memorial Library (Gardner)

Check-in and check-out library materials.  Re-shelve materials.  Issue library cards and enter patron information into the database.  Provide basic readers' advisory services.  Assist patrons in locating materials within the library using an online catalog.  Perform general circulation desk functions including answering all incoming calls and directing calls and patrons to the proper library departments.

This is a 27-30(+) hour per week support position with a schedule of Tuesday 8:30-6:00, Thursday 8:30-6, and Friday and Saturday 8:30-1:00.  (No Saturday hours during June-August.  Loss of Saturday hours may be absorbed on other days of the week to cover for vacations or other staff shortages.)  Full benefits.


Ability to be accurate and to pay strict attention to detail.  Ability to understand and work with library automated systems.  Ability to interact successfully with a diverse patron population, and maintain the confidentiality of patron records.  Ability to fairly and tactfully enforce library policy.  Competency in basic computer skills.  Physical agility, strength, and dexterity necessary for handling large numbers of books and library materials.  This position requires long periods of standing, bending, and reaching for materials housed at different levels of shelving.

Associate's degree and library experience preferred.  High school diploma and prior customer service and/or retail experience required.  Familiarity with Evergreen software a plus.
