Assistant Library Director, Morse Institute Library (Natick)

The Morse Institute Library is seeking an innovative candidate for its full-time Assistant Director position, to assist the Library Director in the management and operation of the Morse Institute Library. The Assistant Director oversees the daily operations of the library, supervising the Circulation, Technical Services, Information Services, and the Children’s departments. 

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, progressive problem solver who anticipates future needs and looks for ways for the library to remain relevant through new services and initiatives, and is committed to the fundamental values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.  The Morse Institute Library is a busy, customer service-oriented public library with an FY23 budget of over $2.4 million. Last year, despite COVD-19 restrictions, the library still circulated close to a half a million items to its patrons. The Morse Institute Library offers a wide range of diverse programs and services to the 36,000+ residents of Natick.

The Assistant Director participates in discussions of policy, problems, and other matters affecting the library; assists in administering all Library services and programs; and oversees and monitors the daily internal operations of the library. The Morse Institute Library has a staff of 54 full and part-time employees. The Assistant Director will work closely with the library’s leadership team to promote a culture of inclusivity and belonging that embraces the contributions of all library staff. The Assistant Director will assume responsibility for the library in the absence of the Library Director, and represent the library in the community as needed.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited graduate school, and a Certificate of Professional Librarianship issued by the MBLC. In addition, he/she must have a minimum of five (5) or more years of progressively responsible public library experience including, three (3) or more years of supervisory experience. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are a must, along with collective bargaining experience, and strong budgetary management experience.

Salary Range

$80,000.00 - $90,000.00  / year

Salary Notes

This position is a Grade 3 of the Personnel Board Pay Plan. The mid salary range for this position is based on qualifications
