Part-Time Teen Librarian, Boyden Library (Foxborough)

The Boyden Library is seeking an independent, reliable, and enthusiastic part-time Teen Librarian to serve as a key player in the daily functioning of the library. This position is 19 hours per week with a schedule to accommodate teen programming during after school hours, evenings, and rotating Saturdays and some Sunday hours (October – April).

Duties include but are not limited to:

Provides reader advisory and reference services appropriate to young adults and assists in the use of all the library’s resources for schoolwork, recreation and other needs

Plans, organizes, implements, and promotes a wide variety of programs and activities to encourage reading and the ongoing use of library facilities and services by middle school and high school students

Develops and evaluates the Young Adult collection on a regular basis, discarding outdated materials and updating as needed

Performs general reference work and fills in at the circulation desk as needed

Supervises use of the Young Adult room

Manages the teen volunteer program

Seeks outreach opportunities to increase community awareness of library programs and services

Compiles annotated lists and bibliographies involving book and non-book materials

Performs other related duties as required


Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university, or currently enrolled in an MLS program with an anticipated graduation in 2023

One to two years of public library experience is required.  Previous work experience with teens is a must for this position

Knowledge of library methods, policies, procedures, and materials

High level of aptitude with all aspects of library technology and social media is essential

Ability to organize time, work independently to accomplish tasks, as well as multi-task

Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patrons, vendors, and other town employees

Knowledge of young adult materials, including books, audio-visual materials, online materials and databases; ability to recommend appropriate materials to patrons

Ability to handle shifting workloads and schedules, work flexibly, exercise initiative and independent judgment
