Part Time Library Assistant, Westhampton Public Library (Westhampton)

7 hours per week; 2 Saturdays per month; 1 evening per week

Assists in all library services, operations, and activities:

Circulation services including: checking in/out material, placing holds and ILL requests, creating new patron records, performing reference services, shelving library materials and shelf reading, retrieving patron hold requests
Assisting patrons with computer and technology questions
Technical service operations including: processing and adding new materials to the library catalog, creating original records for items added to our “Trybrary” (library of things)
Creating flyers and other promotional materials for library events using Canva
Assisting with set up and facilitation of library events as needed
Other duties as assigned by the Library Director or Youth Services Librarian
Independent and collaborative decision making skills


The desired qualifications for this position are:

Ability to interact positively with all library patrons 
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
Previous library or customer service experience
A demonstrated appreciation for the principles of librarianship
Creativity and the ability to problem solve collaboratively
A flexible schedule with the ability to work occasional evenings and weekend hours
Ability and willingness to acquire new skills  

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a typical office environment, subject to quiet or moderate noise.  This position frequently requires the employee to lift and/or push 10 pounds and on occasion as much as 30 pounds, seldom more than 50 pounds, use close vision and be able to adjust focus, use PCs and office equipment.

Preferred schedule:

2 Saturdays per month 10 am - 1 pm, one evening shift per week on Monday or Thursday from 4pm - 8pm, other hours as needed
