YOUTH PROGRAM and IT SUPPORT LIBRARIAN, Granville Public Library (Granville)

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Part-Time Youth Program and IT Support Librarian main focus is the development and implementation of programs for the Granville Youth, with emphasis on Twenty-first Century activities. In addition this librarian is responsible for the varied aspects of library services required in a small library, including circulation procedures and technology support. The occupant of this position is expected to perform the  regular duties of this position with minimal direct supervision.  

SUPERVISION: 

The Youth Program and IT Support Librarian reports to the Library Director and works under the supervision of the Library Director.  This position is evaluated twice/year. First time at or around 3 months from date of hire and then each 6 months after that. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

As in all positions at the Granville Public Library, flexibility and use of time management is essential. The Part-Time Youth Program and IT Support Librarian is responsible for creating, promoting and running biweekly 1-hour youth programs and services. In addition, during the in-library time, the Youth Program and IT Support Librarian will be responsible for computer based maintenance, which may include updates on computers (staff and patrons), website and social media posts and updates.   As needed, the Part-Time Youth Program and IT Support Librarian may be asked to work as a circulation librarian, assisting patrons and providing check-in and check-out responsibilities during their in-library hours. This position is responsible for reviewing and reporting the youth program statistics to the Library Director bimonthly and, in conjunction with the Library Director, analyzing statistics to see how services can be improved to meet the Community needs. 

The Youth Program and IT Support Librarian, in coordination with the Library Director will share the responsibility for outreach including connecting with the community and schools, to create and foster the relationship between the community and the Library. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE YOUTH PROGRAM AND IT SUPPORT LIBRARIAN:

Submit youth or technology relevant information for the library’s weekly Wowbrary Email blast and the Monthly Granville Caller Newsletter
Assist in the evaluation, weeding and ordering of the young adult and children’s collection and catalog materials to develop the youth collection. 
Support the ordering and updating of new technology for program and patron use.
Maintain and develop knowledge of library procedures and activities by participating in  appropriate in-service training and regional programs.  
Perform other duties as required or duties assigned by the Library Director. 

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL AND PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE: 

Required:

A two year degree or equivalent in higher education.
Experience working with children and families. 
Demonstrated interest in Public Library service. 
Preferred

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Public Library Experience
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES FOR POSITION: 

Strong interpersonal communication skills with children, adults, and other libraries are  necessary in this position. 
Strong customer service skills 
Strong computer and technology skills 
Good telephone manner 
Ability to communicate effectively in writing 
Ability to work independently
