Library Assistant for Adult Services, Rowley Public Library (Rowley)

This position reports to the Library Director and Assistant Library Director/Adult Services Librarian and provides assistance in all areas of service to adults. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and promoting library programs; providing reference service; helping patrons find materials and consult library resources; assisting with collection maintenance and promoting library resources and programs. Position works 20 hours per week and receives benefits.

Examples of Duties:
 Contributes to the development, implementation, and promotion of adult programs and special events, including the annual summer reading program, crafts, lectures, author visits, book clubs, etc.
 Provides outreach to underserved populations. May hold programs off site, may include evening and weekend hours.
 Provides Reference and Reader’s Advisory services, assists & instructs patrons in accessing library resources in all formats, physical and virtual.
 Promotes library resources by creating displays, flyers, social media posts; contributes to monthly e-newsletter, library web site and social media pages.
Tracks and reports statistics and metrics for the adult services department.
 Checks in/out and renews library materials, places patron holds, processes patron overdue notices and bills, and inter-library loan requests.
 Manages orders for materials and supplies. Processes new library materials in all formats. Registers new patrons and updates patron accounts.
 Understands, enforces, and explains library policies to patrons.
 Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree required, with coursework in a relevant field such as education, literature, library or information science, preferred. One to two years of experience in a public library, with a focus on reference, technical services, or outreach preferred. Knowledge of modern library trends, practices and materials; basic reference sources and research techniques; database and online reference sources; Internet, computer applications and library system software required; experience with website development and social media strategies desirable.
