Principal Clerk, Marlborough Public Library (Marlborough)

Due to a retirement we have an opening for an office support person who would be responsible for maintaining records of all Library financial transactions. 

Essential responsibilities include:
• Processes and submits invoices to the Auditor for payment on a weekly basis.
• Processes bi-weekly payroll and produces reports on salary budget lines
• Assists in the creation of the annual budget
• Maintains financial records for all library accounts, grants, appropriations, capital expenditures
and contracts.
• Provides regular financial and statistical reports to the Library Director on expenditures and
account balances; makes recommendations to improve financial processes.
• Makes bank deposits
• Maintains petty cash and records of expenditures
• Maintains adequate stock of departmental supplies and orders supplies as needed.
• Responds to inquiries from vendors and the public
• Schedules meeting room requests in library calendar
• On boards new hires
• Assists library patrons at the circulation desk as needed
• Works closely with the Library Director to perform a variety of administrative tasks
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field preferred with a minimum of three
(3) years of full-time related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Practical knowledge of customer service best practices. Knowledge of office applications such
as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Munis Financial system. Knowledge of basic accounting practices,
including financial reporting and reconciliation.

Ability to work in groups with other employees and with the general public. Ability to communicate
effectively in written and oral form. Ability to understand and interpret library policy. Ability to be
organized and pay attention to details. Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer
software and database administration.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and
customer service skills.

Salary range is in 3 steps. 35 hours per week
