Programming Librarian- Children's Services, Morse Institute Library (Natick)

The Morse Institute Library is searching for its next Programming Librarian for Children’s Services with a start date anticipated in September 2022. The position oversees all aspects of programming for the Children’s department.

The Children’s Programming Librarian will work as a member of the Children’s Services Department to promote a culture of inclusivity and belonging that embraces the contributions of all library staff. A candidate for this position will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a wide variety of programs for children from birth through Grade 5 that will encourage reading, viewing and listening, and other developmental skills. They will coordinate programs and activities within the department and its staff, and also work with school librarians, teachers’ groups, parents, and community organizations as appropriate for programming purposes. The successful candidate will also serve as the library liaison to the Minuteman Library Network Youth Services Roundtable.

The Children’s Programming Librarian will organize the department programming calendar, and help to create and maintain content for the library’s social media channels, website, and other online resources, as well as create booklists and displays as needed for the department. And they will be able to provide exemplary reference and reader’s advisory services for children, parents, caregivers, teachers, and other adults, and look for opportunities for patrons to feel welcome.

The Programming Librarian- Children’s Services must have earned a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited institution; must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a library setting with experience creating programming for all ages of children’s development; and must have the ability to work well in a team environment, with excellent interpersonal skills. In exceptional circumstances, specialized education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for part of the educational requirements.
