Neighborhood & Adult Literacy Manager, Springfield City Library (Springfield)

Join our team as the newly-established Neighborhood & Adult Literacy Manager! Among your duties will be responsibility for the implementation and oversight of adult literacy and basic education programs throughout the library system. You will also have responsibility for a small, co-located express branch library. For over 25 years, our adult basic education program, Read/Write/Now, has worked with community members to change their lives in learner-identified ways: achieving a driver's license, learning to read so they can help their children with homework or read a bedtime story, getting a library card, earning a promotion at work, and becoming U.S. citizens. Now it's time to spread this good work across our 9 location library system in proven and innovative ways. If you have experience and a degree in education or librarianship, please consider this challenging and rewarding position.

The manager will be responsible for administrative and professional work in the management of personnel, services, and operations of adult literacy programs and branch teams. Work is performed with professional independent administrative judgment in accordance with the policies and objectives of the Library Department, with review by the Library Director through reports and conferences. Supervision is exercised over other employees as assigned.

We are a city of about 156,000 people. Established in 1636 and located in western Massachusetts on the banks of the Connecticut River and spreading eastward, the "City of Homes" offers a mixed housing stock, from expansive Victorians to densely-packed apartment blocks. Its flat landscape of 33 square miles is home to the 730 acre Forest Park and the Basketball Hall of Fame. Springfield City Library is community-centered and has a Central Library and 8 branches. We recently embraced a new set of Strategic Priorities and committed to these values: We are Welcoming, Trusted, Connected, and Innovative. We are home to an AHL hockey team, a symphony orchestra, four Smithsonian-affiliated museums plus numerous independent and college galleries, and many other activities to get involved in.

Our library system has nine locations: a downtown Central Library, and eight neighborhood branches.  Take a virtual tour here! The Read/Write/Now Adult Learning Center is co-located with the Library Express at Pine Point branch, and was established over 25 years ago.

Inquiries via LinkedIn are welcome, but all applications must be filed on the City of Springfield (MA)'s website
