Assistant Library Director, Acton Memorial Library (Acton)

The Town of Acton is seeking an innovative applicant for the full-time benefitted position of the Library Assistant Director. 

General Duties and Responsibilities: The Library Assistant Director will assist the Library Director in the management and operation of the Memorial Library. The Assistant Director will oversee the daily operations of the library, supervising the Circulation, Technical Services, Adult Services, and Children’s Departments. May advise the staff of their departments on training, supervision, and written evaluations; facilitate staff communication and scheduling; fill in at public service desks and advise the director on a range of topics and be in charge during the Directors absence. Seek and assess new trends in library resources, technology, and services. Collaborate with other Town departments or community/area organizations. Assist with scheduling and running staff meetings and approving vacation schedules and getting coverage as needed. Participate in the selection and interview of candidates for professional positions, and for other positions on request. Assist the Director in budget development and presentation. Work with library-related groups. Represent the library at meetings, including standing in for the Director at meetings. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director. 

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library Science plus the equivalent of 5 years of full time progressively responsible professional public library experience in a high volume, fully-automated library; of which 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably including supervision of professional staff (these years may be concurrent with each other and with the 5 years of professional public library experience); experience in programming; demonstrated communications, organizational and public service skills; experience working with a diverse community and staff; experience in personnel evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications: 3 years administrative experience, including financial record-keeping (these years may be concurrent with the experience required above); experience as an assistant director in a public library; experience in personnel matters; experience working with community groups; experience with RFID; experience in policy and grant writing; knowledge of foreign languages; including Chinese, Southeast Asian languages, Portuguese, and Spanish. 

Special Requirements: Work schedule includes one night a week and one Saturday in three; additional evenings or weekend days as needed. Ability to travel to other sites in Acton, the Network’s Central Site in Natick, and other locations.

Pay Rate: Starting at I14; $37.94-$42.70/hr.; $78,925.09-$88,830.87/yr.
