Technology Librarian, Rye Public Library (Rye, NH)

The Rye Public Library (Rye, NH) is accepting applications for an exciting opportunity to work as our Technology Librarian. Our team needs an innovative, enthusiastic, results-oriented professional with a background in information technology and library services to provide vision, leadership and expertise related to library technology. This person will oversee all aspects of the Library's current automation system (KOHA) and lead developments to enhance the Library’s web-related activities in a full-time capacity. The successful candidate will be able to identify, evaluate, implement, and teach the use of new technologies which facilitate information access and community-driven services in the library setting. The RPL Technology Librarian  participates on a rotating basis at public service desks and reports to the Library Director.

The Rye Public Library is a beloved community institution with excellent usage and membership statistics. The RPL Technology Librarian will have the following responsibilities while serving as the Library’s technology coordinator and educator : 

 Manage, plan and administer all aspects of the library's ILS, providing technical expertise, support and staff training for successful ILS operation and maintenance.
Lead the Library in exploring, evaluating, and adopting emergent technology products and solutions to maximize customers’ experience, and/or optimize use of library resources.
Work with individuals and in public tech class settings guiding the use of technologies that facilitate library use and build information literacy.
Manage, maintain, update and implement Rye Public Library Technology Plan.
Plan and execute all system hardware and software upgrades, purchases, and replacements based on technology planning and budget.
Coordinate, expand and maintain the Library’s website and any contracted services like calendar and reservation software.
Creatively contribute to and refine the Library’s social media campaign. 
Manage and support the library's sever-based computer network and backups, along with the RPL population of computing devices, electronic readers and related technologies, including all staff and public computers and printers.

Our Tech Librarian will also:

Maintain the integrity of the library's ILS (online catalog and patron database), revising cataloging and circulation procedures as necessary for optimal use of the ILS.
Monitor and report on statistical analysis of technology services.
Work regular assigned shifts at public service desks, mainly adult circulation. 
Perform other duties as required.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Experience in administrating an integrated library system. (Familiarity with KOHA and Aspen discovery catalog as well as some SQL language is a plus)
Experience working in a public library service setting. 
Ability to prioritize independent work and meet multiple deadlines.
Ability to test, install, and evaluate hardware and software, including domain server networking and Meraki firewall technology.
Experience instructing clients of various abilities on multiple platforms. 
Experience with Microsoft applications, Google suite and IOS.
Experience administrating various library apps and databases for public use.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Ability to think critically, analyze problems, and develop and implement creative solutions.
A high degree of innovation and versatility, a customer-service focus, and a desire to investigate new technologies and seek development opportunities.
Working knowledge of website management [Wordpress platform], cloud storage, remote desktop connection and creative use of social media platforms.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department heads, coworkers. 
Ability to provide excellent customer service with courtesy and tact.
Ability to meet NH State background check requirements.

The Technology Librarian should have an MLS degree from an ALA accredited program with a technology concentration and two years of professional experience in a public library; or a bachelor’s degree in computer applications or a similar field along with three years of professional library experience.  Equivalent professional training and experience to perform the job will be considered.
