Assistant to the Children's Librarian, Burlington Public Library (Burlington)

The Burlington Public Library is seeking to fill a vacancy for a part-time Assistant to the Children’s Librarian to perform paraprofessional, technical and clerical work in support of our busy Children’s Department. Major duties are described below; also performs other duties related to the primary scope of
the position as required.

MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Provides reference, circulation, and reader advisory services to patrons in the Children’s Department
2. In conjunction with the Children’s and Young Adult Librarian, assists in developing and conducting programs and group visits with a special focus on tweens and teens
3. Creates publicity, book lists, and other promotional materials
4. Provides general support for the Children’s Librarian

Part-time position, 20 hours per week.  Hours are Monday 3-8pm, Tuesday 2-8pm, Thursday 10am-3pm, and Friday 2:15-6:15pm; the schedule includes one Saturday in a four-week rotation, from 9:45am-5:15pm with hours reduced during the regular work week to accommodate.  Opportunity to work Sundays and summer Saturdays as overtime shifts.

Qualifications

Recommended minimum qualification of high school graduation and two years of library experience, preferably in a Children’s Department; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position is included within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit, salary Grade 6 Step 1
