Library Director, Harwich Port Library (Harwich)

Harwich Port Library is a private non-profit free public library, founded in 1923 and operating at our location in Harwich Port, MA since 1925. Open Mondays and Fridays, the library provides well-reviewed fiction and non-fiction books to year-round and seasonal residents and visitors in a cordial and inviting environment.

The Library Director is the face of the library, and in many ways its heart and soul, to our patrons and to the community. Our current library director is stepping down after 13 years, and the Executive Board is searching for our next library director who will lead the library through our centennial and into our next century of operation.

In particular, the Board is seeking a library director who:

·       Is passionate about reading, interested in people and able to connect with our patrons

·       Can effectively lead our team of volunteers and work in partnership with the Board to professionally conduct all phases of library operations

·       Can reach out to the community and attract new patrons through library programming and effective use of social media.

Our current library director has referred to Harwich Port Library as her “happy place,” and we are equally happy with her tenure as director. We are searching for the right individual whose effectiveness for the library will be matched by his/her satisfaction and enjoyment working here.

In deciding whether to apply, we invite you to visit us online at, call to chat with our library director at 508.432.3320, or best of all, stop by on Monday or Friday 9 AM to 4 PM to visit.
