Technical Services Librarian - 20hours/week, Norfolk Public Library (Norfolk)

Under the supervision of the Director, the Technical Services Librarian performs administrative and professional work in relation to the processing and cataloging of library materials, maintains accurate digital records of all materials in the collection, provides some supervision of volunteers, and manages the repair of all library materials. Performs all other related work as required or requested by the Director or Collection Heads.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

- Processes, catalogs, and maintains all library materials utilizing WorkFlows software or other library platforms.

- Performs mending and rebinding of existing library materials in an expedient manner.

- Supervises volunteers processing and mending library materials. 

- Orients and trains staff on any new cataloging procedure that affects checking out materials.

- Maintains accurate list of all current periodical subscriptions received throughout the library; weeds and discards outdated periodical collection.

- Performs circulation duties as needed.

- Takes a regular reference desk shift(s), answering patron questions, and assisting patrons in researching/finding materials. 

- Updates WordPress to reflect new adult and juvenile materials recently added to collections.

- Executes passport processing as needed and processes passports one evening shift per week and one Saturday per the staff rotation.

- Manages the Library’s inter-library loan service when the Information Systems Administrator is unavailable.

- Manages Technical Services Department budget.

- Plans, organizes, and implements special projects as needed under the direction of Collection Head.

- Attends SAILS cataloging and technical services meetings.

- Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as situation dictates.


This part-time position is a 20 hours per week position and will require one evening per week and some weekend work as determined by the weekend staff schedule rotation. Regular schedule is as follows: Monday: 9-2, Tuesday: 12:30-7:30, Wednesday: 9-2, Thursday: 9-2.


2-4 years of experience in public library cataloging or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
