Library Clerk, West Warren Library Association (Warren)

The Library Clerk provides a range of services in support of Borrower Services operations including but not limited to running the circulation desk, patron assistance, maintenance of the collection, and general library tasks. Employees hired for this position are responsible for using the library’s computerized circulation system to check out and return books, issue new library cards, and help patrons of all ages use the library.  Library assistants will organize, sort, and shelve books and other materials. The position requires excellent customer service skills, general office, and computer experience, including MS Office and general web browser and email capabilities. Familiarity with Evergreen, the Dewey Decimal System, and the ability to help patrons use the library’s digital resources on a wide variety of electronic devices is a plus.

Illustrative Tasks: Circulate books, collect fines, process new patron applications, etc; Track daily statistics; Assist patrons with library computers, photocopier/printers, and general web searches; Answer phone and other general office work as required; Processes items received via delivery, interlibrary loan; Sorts, shelves, and checks library materials according to the Dewey Decimal System; Responds to reference and reader’s advisory questions; Places reserve and interlibrary loan requests for patrons; Provides orientation and instruction to patrons regarding library policies, services, and resources; Retrieve books and periodicals from shelves

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: 

Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and detail oriented
Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude towards public service work and children’s programs
Familiarity with MS Office, web browsers, email and general office equipment
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, retrieving items from overhead or floor level shelves, pushing carts, and standing for extended periods of time
Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions

The West Warren Library Association is looking for someone to work Monday and Wednesday from 4pm-7pm with flexibility to be a substitute when needed. The position is 6 hours per week. Availability during library hours (Monday & Wednesday 11-7pm, Friday 11-4pm) a strong plus. For a more detailed job description please contact the library.
