Library Assistant II, Circulation Department, Fall River Public Library (Fall River)

This is a full-time, paraprofessional position working in the circulation department of a busy public library. The person in this position is responsible for serving the public through in-person and phone transactions; registering new patrons for library cards; helping patrons to locate materials both in and outside the library and referring to reference for more complex requests; checking materials in and out; assisting with finding SAILS interlibrary loan requests and putting them in delivery; helping patrons with museum passes; and assisting as needed with collection development, reader's advisory, library displays, copy cataloging, book processing, shelving, and shelf reading. In addition to the regular schedule in the circulation department, this person may be required to cover in other departments, such as reference and children's services, as needed.

The hours for this position are: Monday & Wednesday  8 am-3:30 pm; Tues. & Thurs. 12:30 pm-8 pm; alternate Friday & Saturday 9 am-4:30 pm. 


An associate’s degree, ideally in a library-related subject, or two years of a four-year accredited degree program required. Should also have library or similar experience. Experience working with the public and a good customer service attitude are a must. The person in this position will often be the first staff member the public sees, so a professional, attentive, and welcoming attitude is key! This person should be familiar with current technology and comfortable working in an automated environment; knowledge of computer applications pertaining to library operations preferred.
