Children's Librarian, Bedford Free Public Library (Bedford)
Overview
· The Children’s Librarian operates under the supervision of the Head of Children’s Services to provide excellent library service to children and adults.
Essential Duties
· Foster a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for children and caregivers
· Develop specific areas of the circulating children’s collection
· Plan and lead engaging programs for children from birth to 5th grade and their caregivers
· Offer thoughtful, individualized reader’s advisory and reference services for both leisure and academic reading
· Connect with community members to extend library services beyond the building
· Continually consider opportunities for growth in the Children’s Room
Qualifications
· MLIS /MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution is preferred; may consider MLIS/MLS candidates who have completed coursework related to children’s services
· Familiarity with children’s literature and programming
· Interest and knowledge of the current trends of youth-focused technology and applications
· Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, and additional world language abilities are desirable
