Library Associate, Teen Services - Temporary Staff, Grafton Public Library (Grafton)
The newly renovated and expanded Grafton Public Library seeks temporary youth services staff for emergency coverage due to multiple staff on scheduled leave in late winter through early summer 2023, and on an on-call basis in FY24. We are looking for youth advocates for desk coverage in our state-of-the-art facility. Duties include public service at the Teen Services Desk, assisting patrons with checkout, renewals, library cards and hold requests; responding to patron inquiries; providing library orientation to visitors; applying Library policy; providing program and display preparation/support; shelving; filing; and other duties in support of department goals. This is a part-time position without benefits, between 12-18 hours per week. The work schedule includes evening shifts and Friday/Saturday rotation.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred but not required, and two to three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. An affinity for youth and their caregivers is REQUIRED in this position. Must LOVE youth, parents, teachers, and service providers to youth.
Library experience, especially work with youth, is desirable. Must be able to respond knowledgeably, clearly, and cordially to requests from patrons of all ages for information and service. Must have visual acuity required to read a wide variety of print materials and ability to work for prolonged periods of time at a computer screen. Must be able to carry books and other library materials, stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time, stoop and reach, and lift 30 lbs.
