Library Aide, Hazen Memorial Library (Shirley)
The Hazen Memorial Library in Shirley is seeking a Library Aide.
This is a part-time, union position; 12-16 hours per week, including evenings and rotating Saturdays.
Union benefits include education stipend, and earned sick time.
Duties: Circulation desk work performing all circulation functions for the library, using established procedures and policies.
Tasks include using the library software system to check out library items, manage library memberships, retrieve items to fill holds, check in and shelve materials upon return. Assist patrons with online catalogs, office machines, computer usage, and printing. Answer simple reference questions in person and by phone. Schedule meeting room usage and program attendance. Perform routine processing and cataloging tasks. Serve as a backup for other library aides in their absence.
Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and all members of the public with courtesy and tact. Ability to enforce library policies fairly and tactfully and adhere to procedures. Ability to operate and instruct the public to use all library services requiring a computer or other electronic device.
Qualifications
Must be available to work 12-16 hours per week and Saturdays in rotation. Successful candidate will have a strong customer service orientation with good oral and interpersonal skills and attention to detail. Strong computer skills required. Must be physically able to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time. High School diploma required, some college is desirable. Previous library experience and fluency in Evergreen ILS software is preferred.
