Cataloging and Metadata Librarian, Clark University (Worcester)

Reporting to the Head of Collections Strategy, the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian has responsibility for cataloging materials in all formats, including but not limited to print and digital books and serials, theses, special collections, and media in all formats. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will serve as a consultant on metadata and information organization issues related to Clark's institutional repository, and will keep abreast of trends in organizing digital collections. The incumbent will develop goals with their supervisor and will work closely with all members of the Collections staff to set departmental goals, support projects, and work with student employees to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner. The successful candidate will show demonstrated curiosity regarding library and office systems, cataloging and metadata standards, and trends impacting academic libraries and higher education broadly.

Qualifications

Catalogs materials in all formats and for all collections in Goddard Library, including Archives and Special Collections.
Works closely with Head of Collections Strategy to develop goals and projects regarding cataloging and metadata.
Serves on the Digital Commons Team as the primary consultant on metadata and information organization in the institutional repository (IR) and contributes to other projects related to the IR.
Works closely with the Head of Collections Strategy and Head of Library Systems to improve the functionality of discovery systems such as the Integrated Library System and discovery layer to provide a seamless end-user experience.
Monitors library and publishing trends, best practices in collection management, scholarly communications, open access, and other developments in the profession.
Supports cataloging collaboration with Kasperson, Rose, and Fuller Libraries and serves as the cataloging liaison to those libraries.
Works collaboratively to develop and maintain cataloging and metadata documentation, makes recommendations for process improvement relating to cataloging and metadata creation.  
Participates in library committees as appropriate. 
Contributes to library and campus-wide projects, as appropriate.
Supports projects completed by the Collections department and contributes to departmental goals.
Contributes to the profession through voluntary service, publication, presentation, and/or membership in professional organizations. 
Maintains up-to-date professional knowledge and skills in areas related to primary job assignment as well as maintaining general knowledge of current trends in higher education, academic libraries, and information and educational technology. 

Requirements:

ALA-accredited master's degree in library science, or equivalent  
Two years of experience working in the collections or technical services area of an academic library
Experience in providing original cataloging for multiple formats.
Professional understanding and working knowledge of MARC, RDA and non-MARC metadata schemas, standards, and their applications
Experience with an integrated online library system and major bibliographic utility (OCLC). 
Experience with image-based or text-based digital repositories (Digital Commons, DSpace, ContentDM, Fedora or Omeka)
Enthusiasm for learning new skills and technologies and keeping up with trends in academic libraries.
Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus
