Librarian I - Adult Services, Ayer Library (Ayer)

SUMMARY
The Librarian I-Adult Services (LI-AS) is a professional position responsible for designing and delivering high-quality library services to all patrons. The LI-AS provides frontline customer service in our Adult Services Department.
SUPERVISION
The LI-AS reports to the Head of Adult Services. The LI-AS may also receive direction on a project-by-project basis from the Head of Youth Services or the Library Director.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
The LI-AS may supervise the work of Library Assistants, Library Clerks, and/or volunteers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The LI-AS executes the following duties and responsibilities in collaboration with the Library Director and Department Heads:
Customer Service
• Provides judgment-free circulation, reference, and reader’s advisory services to patrons of all ages.
• Responds to inquiries in person, by telephone, email, and social media.
• Offers direction, information, and instruction to patrons in the use of library resources and technology.
Collection Development
• Assists with the development and maintenance of the Library’s circulating collection of physical and digital resources.
• Collects, analyzes, and reports usage statistics.
• Identifies trends and needs, and makes recommendations for improving circulation.
Technical Services
• Processes new library materials and performs original and copy cataloging of all formats of library materials to facilitate their identification, access, and use.
• Monitors and fulfills ComCat and Interlibrary Loan requests.
Marketing
• Designs flyers, handouts, and displays to market library programs and resources.
• Creates content for library social media accounts, monitors social media comments and messages, and develops social media statistics reports.
• Updates website.
• Collaborates on Constant Contact newsletters.
Programming
• Designs and executes impactful Adult Services programs and activities in person and virtually.
Outreach
• Works with community organizations to collect and distribute information about services for patrons, explore programming opportunities outside of the building, and collaborate on initiatives.
Other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned.

HOURS
34.5 hours per week including evenings and weekends
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$23.74—$30.29 in 11 Steps. Paid vacation, personal days, and sick leave are provided in accordance with the Ayer Library’s Personnel Policy. Health and dental insurance, pension, and other benefits are available as detailed in the Town of Ayer’s Personnel Policy for non-union employees.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience:
• An associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
• 4-6 years of customer service experience.
Preferred Education/Experience:
• An MLIS from an ALA-accredited graduate school
• 3-5 years of customer service experience in a library setting.
