Children's Services Librarian, Medfield Public Library (Medfield)

Be a part of our friendly team in a supportive community that loves its library! The Medfield Memorial Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic candidate who loves working with children and their caregivers to become the Children’s Services Librarian to oversee the busy and active children’s department. Medfield is a suburb of Boston and the library is located in the heart of a thriving New England downtown.

This position oversees four part-time employees, all duties related to the collection development and circulation of juvenile materials, and programming for children under the age of 11. The children’s department excels at providing exemplary programming, with storytimes, book clubs, Lego club, science programs and so much more; there’s something for every kid in town!

The Children’s Services Librarian fosters, maintains, and exhibits the departmental goal of providing excellent customer service to all library users, in person, over the phone, and via online communications. The ability to interact with kids of all ages, as well as caregivers, is essential. It is also necessary to be able to multi-task while maintaining a friendly attitude at this busy service desk.

The duties of this position include managing and scheduling the children’s department; working hours at the children’s desk; recommending books, movies, items from the Toys and Games collection, and other materials; assisting with finding items in the library and through the library system; overseeing the work of Library Pages and volunteers in the children’s department and assign tasks as needed; planning and presenting programs for children and caregivers; and providing outreach to local schools and daycares to promote library programs and services. The Children’s Services Librarian is also in charge of all aspects of collection development of all children’s materials.

The Children’s Services Librarian will be a part of a collaborative, engaged, and positive-thinking team. Due to the nature of working in a forward-thinking, smaller library, the person filling this position will have the opportunity to pursue projects tailored to their personal interests as related to youth library services.

This is a full-time, salaried position. Schedule will include regular weekend and evening hours.
