Programming and Outreach Coordinator, Cotuit Library (Barnstable)

POSITION SUMMARY

Cotuit Library is looking for a Programming and Outreach Coordinator to join our small but mighty team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing

·       Responsible for the Library’s marketing functions in alignment with the strategic plan and Director’s vision.

·       Design, produce and distribute eye-catching signage, flyers, graphics, and ads to promote Library programs and events.

·       Create, implement, and maintain a cohesive and robust social media presence with high levels of engagement, resulting in increased attendance at all Library programs and circulation of materials.

·       Regularly update, edit and proofread the Library website and the weekly e-newsletter to increase engagement/ROI.


Programming and Engagement

·       Create and coordinate youth programs and content with the Adult Programs and Services Librarian and the Executive Director, including but not limited to: weekly story and craft hours for elementary aged children; after school programming for teens; summer reading programs; family-friendly festivals; multi-generational events, and more.

·       Procure and maintain effective, exciting K-12 materials including books, multimedia, games, kits, and other items for circulation.

·       Assist with the organization and promotion of Library fundraising events.

·       Assist the Executive Director to maintain the donor database and other administrative tasks as requested.



Circulation Assistance

·       Assist with opening and closing procedures.

·       Check library materials in and out, process renewals

·       Process book deliveries, holds, and fulfill paging list requests

·       Create and maintain patron records

·       Answer general reference questions and patron inquiries

·       Assist with readers’ advisory

·       Retrieve and shelve library materials

·       Professionally answer the telephone

·       Help patrons locate materials, use the printer, fax, and photocopier

·       Provide tech help and assist with collection maintenance, such as weeding and processing as requested by the Circulation Supervisor

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed collaboratively with a highly energetic and intergenerational creative team.

Work is performed under a combination of typical office and library conditions and off-site conditions encountered when undertaking outreach activities.

Daily work is performed with computers, printers, facsimile machine, copier, calculator, telephone, and other standard digital equipment.

This is a public-facing position and requires appropriate business attire and proper hygiene. 



WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time, year-round position.

Evening and weekend work will be necessary on a regular basis, and community engagement/programs work will be required outside the Library's normal business hours.

The Programming and Outreach Coordinator is expected to attend staff meetings, training sessions, programs, and events at the request of the Executive Director.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·       Bachelor’s degree in education, library science, public programming or related field is highly preferred, but an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

·       Proficiency in multichannel social media marketing required.

·       Must be tech-savvy and creative, and adept at using Canva, Microsoft Office, and Constant Contact.

·       Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to think creatively, coordinate information and work independently.

·       Proficient and comfortable using a computer, digital cameras, smart-devices, and peripheral equipment (scanners, printers, etc.).

·       Understanding of fundraising databases and platforms and experience in donor stewardship preferred. 

·       Previous library experience a plus

·       A clean CORI/SORI background check is required



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position will require lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., as well as reaching and climbing to retrieve and shelve books.
